Way to completly highjack the name to the exact character off my long going tvst thread. lol

I saw 30 days of night, now put aside the plot sucked, the acting sucked, and it was cheesy as hell. It was completely awesome, nothing like a good gory vampire massacre with multiple decapitations

I got About Schmidt last weekend. Fucking awesome movie, one of my favorites for sure. Jack Nicholson suits the role so well. This movie is a great example of why Nicholson is one of the best actors of all time.

the lost skeleton of cadavra.
so silly.
it's made in 2001 but looks like one of those 50's sci fi monster alien movies and it's unapologetically intentionally bad. it's good for watching while sitting around with a group of silly people who like silly things.

I really enjoyed Zodiac, and The US vs John Lennon recently, both are top notch.

Transformers was one of the better stupid teen movies at least the special effects were really well done.

Looking forward to American Gangster.

Hated A Scanner Darkly and Spiderman 3.

I'd love to take those movie tickets off your hand...love in a time of cholera if you still have them. I believe I am free. what time is the showing, I was thinking of going to see you say party we say die later that night. I don't want to waste your passes if its a later show.

isn't that movie already out? whatever!

I just watched Elizabeth. I know its old, 1998. But shit that was awesome! so beautiful, huge costume budget. Plus I've become a bit of a historical monarch junkie...so it was really exciting. I can't wait for the sequel to come out on dvd, any day now.

I just saw Electroma, the Daft punk directed movie. UG! Dave and I both fell asleep in the theatre last night, I haven't done that since I was a kid. Its artsy, and I get the point, but it wasn't unique at all. Reminded me of a dull thx 1138. That being said, I was pretty sleepy by the time I got there. With some patience (There are no words, just visuals and music, none of which is by daft punk) I'm sure it could be interesting and somewhat thought provoking, but not entertaining.

i just downloaded Mirrormask. heard very good things about it. will check it out soon. also saw Superbad. it was alright. better than most movies of the same genre. still pretty dumb though.

one movie i saw recently that stood out was Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer have some great dialogue in that movie. very funny. also finally watched Disturbia. it wasn't bad. very weird. not quite as good as Mr. Brooks, which is somewhat similar, but still good entertainment.

I also just watched the Devil's Advocate not long ago for the first time. DAMN. so good. I can't believe i had not seen it sooner. for those of you that haven't seen it, seriously, go find a copy now.

And on another Keanu Reeves tangent, I followed some advice and checked out Johnny Mnemonic. it was pretty neat. very 90s lol. had a The Matrix meets Hackers feel to it. maybe with a hint of Tron.

I thought it was enjoyable. So did I get the implication of the whole Starbuck thing at the end correct? Are they suggesting that she's the final Cylon model we didn't know about? It would explain her 'survival' after exploding in that planet's atmosphere.

Plus on a Cinemail side note. If any of you ever get the chance, through either Cinemail or it's retail outlet of Movie Village go and rent all of the "Director Collection" DVDs. They are collections of Music Vids, Documentaries, etc on some fairly well known directors. I just finished watching the one on Michel Gondry. Plus they have ones on Spike Jonze, Chris Cunningham, and Mark Romanek. Super interesting to watch.

If you are not a fan of musicals, you still might like this one. The story is classic to the broadway production, very well cast (who all sing their own parts), and Johnny Depp played the role perfectly.

Although, throughout the movie there were a few dull parts that i almost fell asleep at, the last 1/4 of the movie was a good pay off for staying awake! So much Blood, so many slashed necks!!!

I had a couple friends and go see Cloverfield last night.

The guys loved it and the girls hated it. I dunno.
Lack of story line/shitty storyline I think...
But apparently there were a lot of pissed off people that left the theater.

The commercials for it look awesome.
But I think i'll wait for the dvd...

Cloverfield is ok but it almost gave me motion sickness. And I've never had motion sickness to my knowledge so... must be saying something. The story was ok and the monsters were relatively neat but that's about it. Give it a shot if you're keen on seeing it but I really hope you don't run into the same issue I did. Not fun at all.

i enjoyed cloverfield. i thought the idea was cool but hated the fact they left so much info out. fucking hollywood money grabbers know a sequels gonna do well so they left so much hanging. i almost got a major headache but just looked away from the screen when there was excessive camera shaking. pretty good movie nonetheless.

Cloverfield was great, I really liked it - but I can see why some hated it. Its a complete "love or hate" movie - hearing people as the movie ended and walking out was amusing.

I won't spoil anything that happens, but i'll just say its all shot from a "amateur cam" view - which I can understand why it would piss people off, but I think it was a neat way to shoot this film. And yeah, nothing was really explained - but I pretty much figured they wouldn't when I heard that the guys who created Lost made this movie.

Overall it was like going to a fancy dinner where the food is fantastic, but you leave only feeling half full, but when you think about how freaking awesome that small portion was - it was still worth it.

Definitely glad I actually ventured out to the theater for this one!

Haha, that's kinda what happened with my crowd. At least half the theatre grumbled on the very first scene, then a bunch of people started talking and some left right after the opener.

And The Cave was rented because "The Descent" is awesome and I hoped this one might be the same (which it wasn't). PS The Descent is one of the best horror movies I've seen in a while but mostly because of the closing scene.

Totally agree. Just saw it last night. Really well done movie. My only complaint is the acting by the main cast was a little emotionally dry, and the scenes involving extras running away from the monster lacked any sort of depth... it was as if the director told them to run and that's all they did. Other than that it was fantastical!

Saw Cloverfeild as well, I liked it a lot(even shaky cam). It was one movie were the entire auidance REALLY got into it. We had ur basic morons complaining about it (while the whole time they insist on talking to their ugly bf's/gf's the entire time about NOTHING related to the movie, yeah great spend 10 bucks to talk about ur crappy stories). I thought Marlenea was HOT (and was suprised to find out she was in Mean Girls?!?). Basically one thing that hurt the movie for me was the main guy and his determination to save that dumb gf. I didn't buy it, the actor was lousy and it seemed to redefine contrived, maybe with a better actor I'd buy it, but he be lousy.

Juno had that dispicable actress from Hard candy, she annoyed me there and no surpirse she annoyed me here.

Erasaerhead was a kick ass movie (own it). I love the nightmarish industrial atmosphere a lot.

I also saw a movie called RAMPAGE, basically about a guy who buys a gun and shoots two familes and plays with their organs, iteventually gets tricky and avoids the generic approach and asks a lot of questions about the death penalty. Very interesting.

And I also bought a VHS only movie off Ebay called Dark Angel: The Ascent. About some hot demon babe who only has lived in hell and decides to check out earth, and no surprise to the auidance she actually finds out Earth is just the same (or even worse) then hell. She also falls in love, has a neat sidekick german shepard who eats human flesh(awesome dog) and kicks all kinds of ass, very original, inspired and the directing was beautiful.

and alas, I saw FREEWAY, what a movie,I love satirical movies and this one basically poked fun AT EVERYONE. It's basically a refined version of Little Red Riding Hood. Only Little red is played by a street trash beeyatch (LOVED HER) and the big bad wolf is a serial child rapist, her mom and dad are crackheads, and she takes shit from no one on her adventure. With lines like "Please don't put me in that trunk, I',m Claustophobic"..."YEAH? Well i get claustophobic sucking strange dick, GET IN THERE"
"What ya'll looking at? Fuck All Ya'll" or the classic "WELL YOU WANT TO GET SHOT A WHOLE BUNCH OF TIMES? NOW DO LIKE I TELL YA DUMBASS"

Classic...

Warning: spoilers ahead.

The ending doesn't make any sense. Or maybe I'm just retarded and wasn't paying attention. But unless that little space the chick and her kid were locked in was only lockable from the outside, why couldn't Will Smith go in there with them? And if it was only lockable from the outside, couldn't one of the dark people just open the vault door? Also, with an explosion that big, that'd have to be one hell of a fire/heat proof vault. Like a fallout shelter or something.

Also, the sneaky little pro-religious messages were annoying. That whole argument between the woman and Will where she thinks God sent her there for a reason and that god has a plan for her, blah, blah, blah and then Will shoots her down saying that no god would allow 99.9% of the planet to die was a good argument. Saying that 'There is no god' and that man destroyed the earth, god had nothing to do with it, fit very well with the post-apocalyptic theme of the movie. No reasonable god would do something like that and then have a 'plan' for her. But then that whole sound argument is shot to shit when the final scene focuses on a little church and ringing church bells, as if to say, 'HA, see? she was right. God did have a plan for her, and did send her to NYC to get a cure.' Kinda leaves you begging the question, 'why the hell would god allow 99.9% of the world to die in a horrible way and then force them to clean up the mess.' Maybe I'm just over-analyzing it though. But all religious nonsense aside, it takes away from the movie more than adding to it.

The animation was pretty decent but again I'm not sure why there was so much praise. It looked pretty much on par with the first Final Fantasy movie back in 2001. There were moments when it was amazing but then moments when the characters looked like expressionless wax figures with moving mouths.

Ya, i second downloading VLC player --> http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Also tips for downloading good movies include:
-when you do a search sort descending by 'seed'. Download the ones with the most seeds provided they meet the following criteria:
-make sure that it lists encoders in the title such as DivX, AC3, XVid, that sort of thing
-try to find ones that say DVDRIP as opposed to CAM.. Don't ever download CAMS.. Those are videos recorded by some asshat with a camera in a theater.
-Always check the comments on torrent. Look for comments rating the video and audio quality and to ensure the whole video is there and that it is the real deal.

that sounds like a codec issue.

yeah i tried it in a bunch of different players, downloaded some codecs and it still didn't work..

the amount of time it always takes me to download a million different codecs and players just makes the whole thing not worth it for me... i'd rather just rent a movie that have to go through all that hassle. but that's just me. i dont like clogging up my computer with movie stuff i guess

once bitten twice shy might be my problem though, as most of my movie downloading took place back in 2002, and i'm sure things have gotten a bit less confuzzled since then

Movies I watched this weekend. Films are rated in Beer consumption. The more beer I drink the less entertaining the movie is. Measured by a six pack of Moosehead (MHs) during the movie. So the more moose heads you have the less likely you will care about the movie. get it ? Lets go:

I AM LEGEND- Enjoyed it, but its a one off affair. Its predictable, You understood the characters but the overall dimensions should have been darker and deeper. And the vampire/virus dorks looked lame and CGI. (What happened to the days when things looked practical and not CG'd up?..). Meh..it killed time. 4 MHs

SUNSHINE- Danny Boyle's jaunt into Sci-Fi was well..blinding. His obvious love for really angry villains (28 days later) sets this apart from the usual affair in this genre. But it sort of reminded me of 2001: Space Odessey + Solaris with a dash of Event Horizon to add flavor. I do like it, I would watch it again. It just seemed he was trying to make it too original.
2 MHs

Good Luck Chuck - For starters it has Jessica Alba and penguins. So already I was going to like it. Its the Rom-Com that settles in the vain of Something About Mary, Shallow Hal etc. So it had gross humor with good looking female leads. Its low brow but not over done, it has heart.
Dane Cook does the script justice but in some way he is kind of struggling with conforming performances. Alba is cute, clumsy and kind of perverted.
So its hard not be too harsh on this one. I liked it. 2 MHs

Sunshine had a LOT of promise. It could easily have been one of the best Sci Fi films of the last 10 years if it didn't have that whole slasher element to it. Sure someone going mad is alright but it didn't operate as well as say Event Horizon did on that level. Plus Event Horizon was meant to be Sci Fi horror and the first half of Sunshine seemed to be more classical Sci Fi story telling about humanities destiny and our relationship with the universe. Very beautiful and poetically done until that last half hour or so.

I just went and saw 10,000 BC. holy shit, what a cool movie, I highly recommend it to all. I was going into it expecting insane gore and whatnot like appocalypto, but none of that, just a really wicked story. Some of the graphics were a little shotty, but then i was over analyzing the movie due to my inebriated state of mind :)

Watched the movie "The Seeker" (comes out to rent on Tuesday) .. it is susposed to be a kids movie but I have to say there are some pretty creepy scenes in it, especially if you have a fear of snakes or people turning into multiple huge ravens. The idea was kinda cool but overall the movie was very predictible.

Watched "Juno" last night and it was a really cute movie! I enjoyed it!

Also before that we were watching this documentary/movie on the documentary channel about that really popular skateboarder "Gator" who was really big in the late 80's and then he ended up going to prison for life for murder. It was really interesting.

So I watched "Southland Tales" ..I didn't even know about it. I think I read something on it somewhere but forgot. My friend said I would like it.
So I sat and watched 30 minutes in I'm wondering why is this film feel strangely familiar. The cuts, the wide angles, the story ...Then it hits me its almost like Donnie Darko. Then I realize its from the same Director and Writer.
Ok so the Rock being the main character grew on me. Sarah Michelle Geller as a porn star is interesting, Jon Lovitz as a racist cop and Justin Timberlake as a drugged up ww3 vet make me wonder.

The characters and themes are original and yes exist in the same universe as Donnie. And thats what annoyed me at first. It was too similar. Its a hefty 224 minute story. But after awhile I started to see Richard Kelly's eye and intentions. This is his sort of Lucas world. If you got confused by Donnie Darko..don't even get into this one. If you "Got" Donnie you will be sadly mistaken if you expect anything new in terms of concept. But if you are a fan of this type. Then its a good one.

Overall It killed some time, made me think why I love Donnie Darko and that for some reason The Rock isn't that bad an actor.

saw "Into The Wild". Really good movie, based on a true story too.

Last night i saw some film called 'Descent'. despite a unique storyline and subtle messages buried beneath the plot the lead character was kinda underdeveloped and flat, the long scenes weren't effective enough to not be seen as boring, the audio mixing was shit (constantly adjusting the volume as some voices were barely audible and some voices way too loud), and the final scene rivaled that of this crazy French movie "Irréversible" (which actually was a well done movie in a sick twisted sort of way).
